Markup Hero is a powerful, free tool for capturing and sharing screenshots, with robust annotation features for images, PDFs, and websites. It works seamlessly across Mac, Windows, Linux, and Chrome.
This was my own bootstrapped project—designed, built, and grown independently. I scaled it into a sustainable and profitable business alongside my co-founders Jeff and Glib, and we sold it in November 2025.

Markup Hero is a screenshot and annotation tool that I built alongside Jeff Solomon and Glib Tsyrklyevych. Our goal was to create a user-friendly, accessible tool for individuals and teams to easily capture and annotate screenshots, improving communication and collaboration. The product gained quick traction thanks to its simple interface and integrations with Chrome, Slack, and Google Drive, allowing users to annotate directly within their workflow.
We designed Markup Hero with a consumer-first approach, prioritizing ease of use and affordable pricing. We engaged with our subscribers constantly to gather feedback and implement improvements based on what they needed. The tool integrates with Chrome, Slack, Google Drive, and Notion, which made it useful across a lot of different workflows.
Over nearly six years we bootstrapped Markup Hero into a sustainable SaaS product with over 50,000 active users, and sold the business in November 2025. Building and running it end to end taught me more about product than any other project I've worked on.
